Everything you need to know about Anton the horse

To those of us in the UK, Anton is the cute and cuddly toy pony found on Agria stands at events but did you know that a real-life Anton lives in Sweden where he’s quite the superstar? This pint-size pony has a huge personality and considerable army of fans that flocks to see him at public appearances.

Anton, whose registered name is Seedeichs Anton, is a miniature Shetland pony. He belongs to Kicki Sander, who works for Agria in Sweden.

“He was bought as a Christmas present for my daughter but he absolutely loves attention so what could be a better job for him than becoming a mascot for Agria and spreading joy and love?” says Kicki.

Little Anton appears at all the big Agria events in Sweden, including Gothenburg Horse Show and various championships. “He had to learn to ride in an elevator in order to participate in a TV recording for the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2017. He is one cool guy,” believes Kicki, who reveals that his most appreciated appearances are those that involve children.

“Anton visits the Queen Silvia’s Children’s Hospital, where he meets the children and we give out Anton soft toys and books. He’s also involved with collecting money for children’s cancer charities. We use Anton and his massive appeal to help teach children about the importance of nature, being humble and kind, and taking care of ponies,” she says.

So, what excites Anton most. Mints? Carrots? Apples? “He likes his food,” admits Kicki. “However, he really loves having a bath and being groomed because he knows that means he’s going on a trip to a big show or to the Children’s Hospital.”

We agree with Kicki: Anton is one cool little guy.
