National Tree Week
Since 2018, we have been on a journey to reduce our environmental impact and operate our business as sustainably as possible. We’ve been planting trees across the UK and around the world for the past 4 years and have planted over 3,500! but we have plans for many more…
Why plant trees in the first place?
Trees are vital for the health of the soil in which they grow. They help to put back nutrients into the ground, which increases soil fertility. This provides more productive growing conditions for plants and crops too, and contributes to landslide prevention and future erosion. Healthy soil is also a big natural carbon sink, so as well as absorbing carbon themselves, trees help the soil to sequester more carbon too.
When trees are native to their environment, they form a crucial part of the ecosystem, providing habitat and shelter for wildlife and restoring biodiversity. By planting more trees (the right ones in the right places) we are helping to protect and preserve habitats for existing wildlife populations.
Having access to green, natural spaces is equally important to us humans and our pets too. Trees help to purify our air and can reduce levels of pollution, but they also give us space to connect with nature, exercise, and take some time out of our busy lives.
Agria Team Green Days
In partnership with the Chiltern Rangers, our team has participated in three Green Team Days this year. One of these was spent at a local tree nursery in summer, where the team got their hands dirty, caring for young saplings and maintaining growing trees, ensuring that these future forests have the best possible start. Just last week, we returned to plant 30 native trees, including hawthorn and hazel, which will go on to provide vital habitat and food sources for a diverse range of local wildlife. Our team also made and installed a beautiful bench for the community to enjoy and two bird boxes.
We have now planted over 3,589 trees both in the UK and around the world. Our goal is to make a real difference - not just in reducing our carbon footprint, but in supporting environments where wildlife can thrive.
The Agria Acre
The Agria Acre is something we are really proud of. This beautiful woodland, nestled within the National Forest, serves as a sanctuary for native wildlife, from birds to bats, badgers, and wildflowers. It's also a place for pet lovers and local communities to connect with nature. By dedicating this space to the pets who enrich our lives, we hope to protect the natural world that our animals depend on. A healthier environment helps us and our pets to lead healthier lives, and the Agria Acre is a wonderful place connecting pet welfare and environmental stewardship. By taking care of our environment through initiatives like tree planting, reducing waste, and supporting biodiversity, we take care of our pets’ future too.
This National Tree Week, we encourage everyone to get involved, whether by planting a tree, joining a local conservation group, or simply spending some time quality time in nature with your pet. Next time you see a mighty oak tree or a tiny little sapling, take a moment to appreciate all of the amazing thing’s trees can do for us, our pets and our planet.
