Another step on the road to Net Zero
Earlier this year, we made our commitment to setting science-based targets to achieve Net Zero, a significant step towards aligning our goals with the planet's most urgent needs. Today, we are pleased to let you know that our targets have officially been submitted for validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and our journey is set to commence this coming January.
So, what does this mean, and why is it so important?
While we are already proud to be a Carbon Positive company, which means we offset twice the emissions we generate, we are well aware that true sustainability goes way beyond offsetting. Achieving Net Zero means we must focus on reducing our emissions to the lowest possible level, relying on carbon offsetting only for those emissions that are unavoidable. This approach works towards long-term systemic change, and we are fully committed to making it happen.
Our targets are both ambitious and necessary. We have set science-based goals to align with the Paris Agreement and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 13: Climate Action. Reducing our emissions is not only crucial for mitigating climate change, but also directly benefits the world we all share, including the environments our precious pets rely on. By 2030, we aim to reduce our Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 42%, and by 2040, we plan to cut our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90%, all compared to our 2023 baseline.
Why should targets be ‘science-based’?
Science based targets are grounded in the latest climate science, giving us a clear and credible path to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Unlike generic sustainability promises, science-based targets are measurable, verifiable, and follow rigorous climate research. This ensures that every step we take is impactful and that our progress is transparent and accountable.
At Agria, we know our responsibility goes way beyond pet insurance. We want to contribute to a healthier world for all, our pets, our customers, and the natural ecosystems that sustain us. By working towards Net Zero, we can help preserve the habitats that so many animals depend on, from vibrant rainforests to local green spaces that we and our pets enjoy every day.
We look forward to updating you on our progress soon.
